Dear future AP enthusiast, I hope that you think twice about your schedule, because this class will change your high school life. Whether it be stress or willful experience, this Advanced English course at Everett Alvarez is the best course you could possibly take during your junior year at Alvarez High School.
Your summer task may be a drastic assignment, but just remember that all things are possible. As Albert Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” Keep in mind that all that work may seem meaningless at first, but later it helps you out a lot, especially when imitations come into our playing field in the first semester with this AP course. When you see all those tone words for the first time, think of something that will be memorable especially if it helps you memorize them, the same thing goes for all the rhetorical devices.
Perhaps it is easy for those who have not witness the drastic number of pages from literature understand that books are not your enemy they are your salvation when in needed. Your reading techniques will be really needed in this AP course. When your get to read 1984, Brave New World, All Things Fall Apart, and etc. they will help your knowledge gain inspiration about your world and your perspective. These books will give you new ideas you never thought about. These books will bring you new feelings about your world about you never thought could happen These books will change your life.
My future advice for all you bloggers is that you should never get behind with your posting. These blogs will be not just your personal relief about school life and assignments, but it will also be a cushion grade for when AP testing week comes around. I will never forget our first commenting day, it was the first day to comment on one of my other friend’s blog post. I still remember when I saw my first comments, they made me feel so ecstatic. I still cannot believe that my peers believed in not just in me, but also my writing skills.
My very best advice for speech week in Quarter 3 is that you need to practice as much as you can. Based off of my own experience, it is best to practice with your family around so that you can shed off some of that stage fright which in my case, kicked in the moment I saw everyone look and watch when I debated. You can be given a topic about an issue or a problem either with the world or based on the books you have read in the past year in the AP course. This course activity was a way to gain experience with the lacking characteristics I never really achieved well enough before, this would include public speaking as one of them.
As you already know already by now, this advanced placement class will be also be recommending to take the AP English exam in the following Spring session in 2017. This exam is not all about just memorizing it is about tactics as well as confidence. It only takes one moment of lacking confidence for you to be at a diving point of when you tell yourself that ‘I can do this’ and ‘What did I sign myself up for?’.
Sometimes Advance Placement courses can be cruel. That is ultimately the fundamental lesson here as those who come with no experience come and learn with a change of heart and with a passion. AP English is not as hard or treacherous as you might think it is. Try your best and do your very best to prove to yourself and other that AP course are not so frightening as others say to each other. My final words for all you incoming juniors is that this class is not just fun and exhilarating it is also another home away from home. Ms. Henry with being practically your guardian angel, will help your fight and prepare you for the rock pasture toward the monstrous and terrifying AP English exam.
Sincerely yours,
Aaron
